Dr. Deborah Plante

Dr. Deborah Plante completed her fellowship at the University of Virginia (UVA) followed by one year of practice in Fredericksburg, VA. She then moved to California and has worked for Mercy Medical Group for the past ten years. During her last two years at Mercy Medical Group, Dr. Plante served as the physician champion for The Diabetes Care Team as well as the physician champion for diabetes at Mercy San Juan (MSJ) hospital.

Her work at the clinic involved setting up a gestational diabetes program, writing diabetes materials, expansion of staff including hiring a nurse practitioner and program director to help primary care manage their diabetic population. At the hospital, she was involved in a glycemic control initiative, teaching and implementing new insulin protocols to physicians and nurses.

Dr. Plante has given numerous lectures for both the community and physicians. Sun City Lincoln Hills and Dignity Health Day of Dance in Folsom hosted her lectures on type 2 diabetes and diabetes prevention. She also spoke at the American Association of University Women on thyroid disorders.

Physician lectures included inpatient diabetes management at Grand Rounds MSJ hospital and new therapies in diabetes at Mercy Medical Group. Deborah has also been involved with the local Taking Care of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) convention.

Dr. Plante treats all endocrine disorders, including thyroid conditions and thyroid cancer, women’s health, adrenal and pituitary disorders, type 1 diabetes with special interest in pump and continuous glucose monitoring and type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome pre-diabetes and obesity. She has a passion for preventive medicine and health maintenance. Her area of research at UVA partnered her with an exercise physiologist and incorporated PCOS, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and diabetes prevention.

Dr. Plante lives in Granite Bay with her husband and two children and is active in the community with both Boys Team Charity and American Diabetes Association (ADA). She is especially excited to be starting the first Walk with a Doc program in Sacramento. In her spare time, Deborah enjoys cooking, running, skiing and traveling with her family.
